Descent of the Fosso di Rio Mulino".

Canyoning, also known as canyoning, is an adventure sport that consists of walking along the bed of a creek embedded in gorges or canyons, using a combination of techniques such as walking, climbing, swimming, jumping, and abseiling with ropes. This activity takes place in natural environments, is practiced in gorges or canyons, often carved by waterways over millions of years, and often requires specific equipment. To ensure safety and comfort during the activity, equipment such as neoprene wetsuits (to protect against the cold), helmets (for head protection), harnesses, ropes, carabiners, descenders and shoes suitable for the aquatic and rocky environment are used.

There are routes of various levels of difficulty, suitable for both beginners and experts. The difficulty may depend on the length of the route, the flow of water, the presence of natural obstacles, and the need to use advanced climbing or descent techniques. Canyoning is a very exciting activity that allows you to explore spectacular and inaccessible places, but it requires good physical preparation, knowledge of specific techniques and adequate equipment to ensure safety. It is often practiced in groups, under the guidance of experienced instructors, especially for beginners and different techniques such as walking in the water, rock climbing, swimming in pools of water, jumping from varying heights and the use of ropes for descents (abseils) along waterfalls or rock faces.

One of our easy-medium difficulty but very suggestive canyoning routes takes place in the picturesque village of Castel di Fiori, located in the municipality of Terni. Castel di Fiori is home to a small community of a few dozen residents, which is enriched by numerous Italian and foreign families during the summer season and holidays. The village, expertly restored, preserves intact its fascinating medieval character, surrounded by walls that include the Castle, now reduced to ruins, and the medieval tower. In the pretty central square stands the Baronial Palace of the village and the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena. Near Castel di Fiori there are natural pools, waterfalls and nature trails that attract many visitors eager to explore the natural treasures of the area in different ways: trekking, light canyoning excursions or simply a refreshing swim in the waterfall ponds.

The meeting with the private canyoning instructor/guide is scheduled in Castel di Fiori, for the preparation of the canyoning activity “Descent of the Fosso di Rio Mulino”. The Rio Mulino is the ideal place to approach the practice of canyoning: the path of the stream is flanked by paths both to the right and to the left of the river, allowing you to interrupt the activity at any time or to repeat the descent of the falls. The itinerary includes two main waterfalls, surrounded by lush vegetation that is reflected in small lakes, perfect for diving in and taking a refreshing break. The water excursion does not present technical difficulties, except for two waterfalls of 7 and 15 meters, which can be overcome with the help of a rope but totally avoidable if necessary.

This adventure is perfect for families, groups of friends, or anyone looking to explore the natural beauty of Castel di Fiori in an exciting and safe way. This experience offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in unspoiled nature, discovering hidden corners and enjoying moments of pure adventure and relaxation.

To ensure a pleasant and safe day, it is advisable to bring a mobile phone, 1 liter of water and a snack, all closed in plastic food bags. It is essential to have a towel and a complete change of clothes (including underwear and footwear) to leave in the car for after the excursion. In addition, a packed snack can be eaten during the hike to maintain energy.

Equipment provided: helmet, harness, wetsuit and boots (please indicate wetsuit and boot sizes at the time of booking).
