Antiguamente era conocida con el nombre de Ameria seg\u00fan la mitolog\u00eda fundada por el rey Ameroe. De este \u00faltimo destaca la estatua de bronce de Germ\u00e1nico <strong>Julio C\u00e9sar<\/strong>, una de las pocas que quedan en el mundo, conservada en el museo arqueol\u00f3gico de la ciudad.<\/p>\n<p>El <strong>Museo C\u00edvico<\/strong> de Amelia no s\u00f3lo alberga la famosa estatua, sino que recorre la historia y el desarrollo de Amelia en sus tres niveles, empezando por la planta baja, donde se guardan los hallazgos m\u00e1s antiguos. Continuando en el primer piso, caracterizado por la estatua de C\u00e9sar, se guardan los testimonios de la \u00e9poca romana. Finalmente, la segunda planta se divide entre la pinacoteca y la zona arqueol\u00f3gica medieval.<\/p>\n<p>Un signo de la historicidad de la ciudad son los muros poligonales que est\u00e1n formados por cantos rodados encajados entre s\u00ed sin ning\u00fan material que los mantenga unidos (en la \u00e9poca, mortero). La muralla de la ciudad tiene seis entradas pero actualmente se utilizan cuatro. Junto a la muralla principal existe otra muralla m\u00e1s antigua, llamada \u00abmegal\u00edtica\u00bb, que rode\u00f3 la <strong>acr\u00f3polis <\/strong> entre el siglo VII y el VI a.C., compuesta \u00fanicamente por bloques irregulares, sin pulir, dispuestos de forma primitiva.<\/p>\n<p>En la parte superior hay un <strong>teatro<\/strong>: construido en madera y con estructura de herradura. En la ciudad tambi\u00e9n hay numerosas arquitecturas religiosas como la Iglesia de San Francisco, tambi\u00e9n llamada iglesia de los Santos Filippo y
