Hiking in the Sibillini Mountains

Hiking in the Sibillini Mountains is an extraordinary experience for lovers of nature and outdoor activities. This mountain range located in the heart of central Italy, between the regions of Marche and Umbria, offers an extensive network of trails that cross breathtaking landscapes, including majestic peaks, green pastures, lakes and centuries-old forests.

The hiking trails in the Sibillini are incredibly varied and suitable for all levels of experience, from scenic walks suitable for families to more challenging treks for more experienced hikers.

The most challenging route is that of the Great Ring of the Sibillini (Grande Anello dei Sibillini), a hiking crossing that surrounds the entire mountain massif of the Sibillini Mountains, offering an unforgettable experience for lovers of trekking and wild nature. Along its approximately 120 kilometers of trails, the Great Ring crosses some of the most evocative and spectacular places in the two regions with breathtaking landscapes on imposing peaks, such as Monte Vettore, the highest peak of the Sibillini, Monte Sibilla and Monte Bove.

Along the way there are several managed mountain huts that offer shelter and refreshment to hikers. These refuges are important landmarks and also offer the opportunity to taste typical dishes of the local cuisine. The Great Ring Trail passes through protected areas and pristine landscapes, offering hikers the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the wild beauty of the Sibillini Mountains where a variety of flora and fauna can be spotted, including alpine flowers, birds of prey, and wild mammals.

The excursion of the Great Ring of the Sibillini is organized and planned by sorprendimiumbria with a hiking guide and includes several days of excursion (half-day or full-day excursions), with overnight stays in mountain huts along the entire route. The adventure and emotions that this crossing offers are certainly worth the effort of the walk, giving unforgettable memories and a deep connection with the wild nature of the Sibillini.

Nestled among the peaks of the Sibillini Mountains, Lake Pilato and a spectacular canyon carved by the Tenna river, surrounded by high rock walls covered with lush vegetation, can also be reached by several trails: the Gole dell’Infernaccio.

Orienteering in the Sibillini Mountains is an exciting experience that tests orienteering skills in a breathtaking scenery and a beautiful team building challenge. Participants venture through peaks and valleys, armed only with a compass and a detailed topographic map, exploring paths that wind through forests and clearings. Along the way, puzzles and challenges await to be solved, guiding groups to the next stop and revealing spectacular views of the natural wonders of the Sibillini Mountains. But the experience is not limited to orienteering. Right in the deep forests and hidden paths of the Sibillini Mountains, it offers the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the wilderness and trace the footprints of the local fauna. Through the tracking of wild animals, participants explore the territory in search of signs of the presence of the most elusive inhabitants of the mountains: fresh footprints, remains of meals, and signs of life that tell the story of the forest. Divided into teams and followed by expert guides of the area, the participants try their hand at an engaging competition. Each correctly interpreted sign adds points to the team, but the real treasure is the shared experience and knowledge gained along the way.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which team wins the challenge, because the real prize is the fascinating journey to discover the secrets of the Sibillini and the strengthened bond between the participants and the wild nature of the mountains.
