Deruta
A small and charming village nestled in the Tiber valley, Deruta is the city known worldwide for its ceramics.
The ‘ craftsmanship is recognized entirely in the production of majolica.
Deruta is a fortified castle forming part of Perugia’s defensive system, but having its own legislation.
Of the old castle there currently remain, albeit modified, the three gates, the remains of the walls and the structure leading to the Piazza dei Consoli, where there is the palace of the same name with a 14th-century tower adorned with ogival mullioned windows with two lights.
It is also possible to visit the national ceramics museum housed in the former convent of St. Francis.
