City of Pieve
Città Della Pieve, is a charming medieval town, nestled on a plateau-shaped hill between the Nestore and Chiani rivers.
Its historic center, which preserves the original urban layout in an exemplary manner, offers great treasures to art lovers.
Città della Pieve, in fact, is home to one of the most important painters of the Italian Renaissance: Pietro Vannucci known as “Il Perugino,” Raphael‘s master. Works by Perugino can be seen in the Oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi, and in the Cathedral of Saints Gervasius and Protasius, the city’s cathedral, inside which are also paintings by Pomarancio.
For the romantically inclined, a walk down “Baciadonne Alley,” which at 50 to 60 centimeters wide, is the narrowest in Italy, is not to be missed.
Città della Pieve is also a movie star! In fact, the town has been chosen as a set for as many as three national TV series: “Carabinieri,” “Don Matteo” and “Luisa Spagnoli.”
